Junior Accounts Assistant
British School, Madrid
Our client, a prestigious British School, is currently looking for a driven Junior Accounts Assistant to cover a maternity leave. Working hand in hand with the school Bursar and acting as a key point of contact between the school and outsourced Accountants /Lawyers, the selected candidate will undertake the following:
Tasks and responsibilities (not limited to):
- Preparation of invoices and billing (annual and termly school fees, school extras, trips, exams, reimbursements)
- Acting as key point of contact and submitting monthly payments and expenditure (with supplementary invoices and documentation) to outsourced accounting firm
- Monthly VAT control (control SII)
- Assisting with the withholding and filing of income tax (Modelo 111), liaising with the external accountants
- Program bank transfers and make payments
- Bank reconciliation and daily monitoring of balance and movements
- Reconciliation of credit cards, ensuring receipts are correctly filed
- Credit control and following up unpaid invoices
- Assist with maintaining all accounting records
- Assist with preparation of payroll (provided by outsourced firm)
- Daily communication with outsourced legal and accounting firms
- Export/download reports (using relevant software) to send through to accounting firm
- Control and follow up of debtors
- Petty cash
- Contact with parents and responding to queries regarding billing
- Sending school certificates to parents when required (during annual tax return “Renta” period)
- Assisting with school admissions
- Providing administrative support to Head of Projects and ad hoc projects as required
A degree or relevant advanced education in Finance preferable (Bachillerato, FP o Grado en Administración y Finanzas o Comercio). English isn’t essential for this role, however useful due to the nature of the school. Applicants must be adept with Mac, Office 365 (Excel) and be able to use and pick up relevant accounting software with ease. Experience in an accounts department, notary or gestoria will be considered favourably, however no experience is required as on the job training will be given.
The ideal candidate will be well presented, polite, friendly, precise, proactive and a team player. They will be comfortable taking on a wide range of tasks.

Timetable: 09.00h – 18.00h
Salary: €18.000
Contract: Maternity Cover
